Hello My Name Is Dr. Javier Aget-Torres DNP, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Javier Aget-Torres is a first-generation Cuban immigrant and scholar, whose passion for mental health, philanthropy, and leadership led him to aspire to a career in nursing. Dr. Javier Aget-Torres earned his Bachelor of Art in Psychology with an emphasis in Couple and Family Therapy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Aget-Torres earned his Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Columbia University as well as his Post Master Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, culminating with his degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

 

Dr. Aget-Torres holds a board certification in psychiatry across the lifespan. Dr. Aget-Torres has years of experience working in community psychiatry. Dr. Aget-Torres received clinical training in working with the forensic population at Rikers Island and with LGBTQ seniors. After, completing his doctoral program, Dr. Aget-Torres went onto complete a year fellowship in community psychiatry. Currently, Dr. Aget-Torres works on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, serving unhoused clients in the Bronx, throughout the shelter system. In his current role, Dr. Aget-Torres manages complex psychiatric, mental health, and behavioral disorders.

What is Dr. Aget-Torres’s Philosophy of Care?

Dr. Aget-Torres’s care philosophy primarily embraces a person-centered and humanistic approach. Dr. Aget-Torres strives to promote feelings of worth by creating an atmosphere where differences are respected, communication remains flexible, and every achievement whether big or small is celebrated. He believes that every individual can reach their full potential with the help of evidence-based treatments with the use of psychotherapeutic and pharmacotherapeutic interventions.

 

Dr. Aget-Torres understands the critical importance that trauma plays in our lives. His practice embraces a trauma-informed and culturally competent framework.
